Martin Luther King Jr Day :Martin Luther King Jr Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January to mark the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. King had successfully led a nonviolent movement against the racial discrimination in both Federal and State laws of the USA. Presidents Day :Presidents Day is observed every year on the third Monday of February to mark the birthday of George Washington, the First President of the United States of America. George Washington was one of the founding fathers of the USA and also led a successful military campaign as Commander in Chief of Continental Army against Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War. Memorial Day :Memorial Day is observed every year on the final Monday of May in remembrance of men and women who died while serving the United States of America armed forces. Independence Day ( Fourth of July ) :Independence Day is observed every year on the Fourth of July in the United States of America commemorating its adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 1776 from Great Britain. USA went on to win its independence with the Continental Army defeating the armed forces of Great Britain. Labor Day :Labor Day is observed every year on the first Monday in September to celebrate the social and economic contributions of workers. Columbus Day :Columbus Day is observed every year on the second Monday in October to celebrate the Christopher Columbus arrival in Americas. Christopher Columbus arrived in Americas on October 12 1492 but the holiday has been fixated to second Monday in October since 1971. Veterans Day :Veterans Day is observed every year on the fourth Monday in October to honor the people who have served the United States of America armed forces. Originally the veterans day was celebrated on November 11 but was moved to fourth Monday in October after the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1971. Thanksgiving Day :Thanksgiving Day is observed every year on the fourth Thursday in November as a day of " day of thanksgiving " to the almighty God. The modern Thanksgiving has traces back to harvest feast held at Plymouth Plantation by the settlers after a successful growing season in 1621. Christmas :Christmas or Christmas Day is celebrated every year on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is a widely observed holiday across the world. |
